MARIETTA, Ga. - The Mount Vernon Varsity Baseball team picked up two region wins on Monday afternoon, April 17, defeating the Mt. Bethel Christian Academy Eagles 16-1 and 13-3 at the Mount Paran Sports Complex.
In Game One, the Mustangs led 4-1 before erupting for 12 runs in the top of the seventh to take the win.
Dylan Holbrook led the offensive charge, going 2-for-4 with four RBI's, three runs scored and a home run.
Dawson Stevens finished 3-for-5 with three RBI's while teammate Brooks Champney was 2-for-3 with two RBI's and two runs scored.
Avery Anderson had a nice day at the plate as well with a 2-for-5 performance and two RBI's.
Nate Shumway picked up the win on the mound for the Mustangs.
The righty tossed 5.2 innings with nine strikeouts and two walks while scattering two hits.
In Game Two, the Mustangs jumped out to a 3-0 lead at the end of the first inning.
The Eagles scored a run in the second, third and fifth innings to tie the game.
Again the Mount Vernon bats exploded in a major way, scoring 10 runs in the bottom of the fifth to bring the run-rule into effect.
Daniel O'Keefe finished with a game-high four RBI's while Champney continued his hot hitting with a 2-for-3 performance that produced two RBI's.
Stevens picked up two more RBI's in the winning bid as well.
The Mustangs (13-7, 8-6 Reg. 6-1A DI) are back on the field on Wednesday, April 19, traveling to King's Ridge for another region contest.
First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Legion Field.
