Girls Soccer Bests Dade County 5-3 to Advance to Elite 8

TRENTON, Ga. - For the first time in program history, the Mount Vernon Varsity Girls Soccer team is going to the Elite 8.

The Mustangs accomplished that feat with a 5-3 victory over the Dade County Wolverines on Monday afternoon, April 17.

The Mustangs went up 3-1 in the first half with two goals from Karoline Lundstrom and one score from Ruby Turner.

After allowing a goal in the second period to Dade County that cut the lead to 3-2, Rachel Reeve found Taylor Keller with 12:00 remaining to go ahead 4-2.

Dade County struck for another score to pull within one at 4-3 before Lundstrom scored her third goal on a penalty kick with 4:43 to play in the match.

Mount Vernon (12-2) will travel to Temple High School to take on the Tigers in the Elite 8 on Monday, April 24.

A time will be determined in the coming days.
