DUNWOODY, Ga. - For the first time in eight years, the Mount Vernon Varsity Boys Tennis team has secured a spot in the Sweet 16.
The Mustangs advanced in the GHSA Class-A DI State Tournament on Wednesday afternoon, April 19, defeating Jasper County 5-0 at Dunwoody Country Club.
Liam O'Leary (1S) won 6-1, 6-1 while Cadyn Dawson (2S), Christopher (3S), Kiefer Hurtado/Nico Tur (1D), and Jac Crouch/Sam Hodges (2D) all blanked their opponents 6-0, 6-0 to earn the shutout.
Mount Vernon will advance to play the Darlington School Tigers in the Sweet 16 on Monday, April 24.
The Tigers, the no. 1 seed from Region 7, defeated Athens Christian 3-0 on Wednesday afternoon to advance.
First serve for Monday's match is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the Darlington Tennis Courts.
