Mustangs Pick Up Region Win at King's Ridge, 8-2

ALPHARETTA, Ga. - The Mount Vernon Varsity Baseball team picked up a key region win on Wednesday afternoon, April 19, defeating the King's Ridge Christian School Tigers at Legion Field.

Mount Vernon jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, the first run coming on a Dylan Holbrook double that scored Nate Thomas.

One batter later, Holbrook came home on an infield error by the Tigers.

The Tigers cut the Mustang lead in half in the bottom of the first inning.

After a scoreless second, Mount Vernon added a run in the top of the third when Bennett Bogdanchik reached on another Tiger error that allowed Champney to score to make it 3-1.

The Mustangs struck for another run in the top of the fifth on a Hampton Hudson double that plated Bogdanchik for a 4-1 lead.

The Tigers added their final run of the contest in the bottom of the sixth inning to cut the lead in half again, this time at 4-2.

In the top of the seventh, the Mustangs put the game away for good, scoring four more runs to push the lead to 8-2.

Hudson singled to plate Alec Fahlbusch, Harrison Mills scored on a Tiger balk and Champney reached on an infield error that brought home Thomas and Avery Anderson.

Landon Brice picked up the win on the mound for the Mustangs, tossing five innings, allowing one run on six hits and striking out five batters.

Hampton Hudson pitched two innings of relief as well with four strikeouts.

Mount Vernon (14-7, 9-6 Region 6-1A DI) returns to play on Friday, April 21, hosting the Tigers to close out the regular season.

First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at Mustang Park.
