Lacrosse Closes Regular Season with 19-6 Victory Over Strong Rock

ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Boys Lacrosse team closed out the regular season in style, defeating the Strong Rock Christian School Patriots 19-6 on Thursday afternoon, April 20 at Ron Hill Field.

Mount Vernon led 6-3 at the end of the first quarter and secured a 4-0 run in the second period to lead 10-3 at halftime.

In the third quarter, the Mustangs outscored the Patriots 4-0 to go ahead 15-4 and bring a running clock into play.

The Mustangs won the fourth quarter 4-2 to seal the win.

Mount Vernon controlled the tempo for much of the match, outshooting Strong Rock 41-19.

The Mustangs also secured the face-off battle, winning 20 of 28 face-offs.

Cole Palmer finished with eight goals and three assists to lead the Mustang charge.

Teammate Jake Hutchens finished with five goals and two assists while Jackson Scotchie secured four goals and three assists.

Coleson Quisenberry totaled three saves in goal.

Mount Vernon (8-3) will now gear up for the GHSA State Playoffs, traveling to Whitewater High School in the first round on Tuesday, April 25.

Face-off against the Wildcats is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in Fayetteville, Ga.
