Track and Field Posts Impressive Outing at GHSA Sectionals

BARNESVILLE, Ga. - The Mount Vernon Varsity Track and Field teams had an impressive showing at the GHSA Sectional Round on Saturday, May 6 at Lamar County High School.

Below is a quick recap of the event as team members get set for State.

The Boys 800m team won their relay by more than seven seconds with a time of 8:28.16.

Kennedy Reynolds took the the Girls 100m Hurdles in a flash with new PR & 1A-D1 leading time of of 15.36.

That performance was followed up by Christopher Kartsonas in the 100m Hurdles, running away from the rest of the field to also achieve a new PR of 15.09.

Nagari Tophia secured his place for the GHSA State Championships with the top time in the Boys 200m as well.

The following team members will be representing the Mustangs at the GHSA State Championships:

-Boys 4x100 Meter Relay - Benjamin Spitz, Nagari Tophia, Christopher Kartsonas, Aidan Ray, James Knight

-Boys 4x400 Meter Relay - Nagari Tophia, Haris Flynn, Curran Jolly, Collin Maher, James Knight

-Boys 4x800 Meter Relay - Curran Jolly, Haris Flynn, James Knight , Collin Maher; Alternates Brayden Ebert and Josh Cagwin

-Girls 100 Meter Hurdles - Kennedy Reynolds

-Girls 300 Meter Hurdles - Kennedy Reynolds

-Boys 110 Meter Hurdles - Christopher Kartsonas

-Boys 100 Meter Dash - Nagari Tophia

-Boys 200 Meter Dash - Nagari Tophia

-Boys 800 Meter Run - Haris Flynn and Curran Jolly

-Boys 1600 Meter Run - Haris Flynn

State is scheduled for May 11-13 at Barron Stadium in Rome, Ga.
