SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. - The Mount Vernon Varsity Softball team capped off an impressive weekend, claiming their third straight "Battle of Sandy Springs City Championship" August 11-12 at North Springs High School.
On Friday night, August 11, the Mustangs bested the Riverwood Raiders 9-6.
Reagan Hickey finished 3-for-3 with four RBI's, including a home run.
Teammate Lauren Dove had a nice day at the dish as well, finishing 2-for-2 with two RBI's.
Olivia McDougall picked up the win in the circle for the Mustangs, tossing two innings, allowing one run and striking out two batters.
On Saturday, August 12, the Mustangs squared off against the North Springs Spartans and came away with an 11-2 victory in five innings.
Reagan Hickey continued her torrid pace, picking up five RBI's and hitting another home run.
Grace Westmoreland was 2-for-4 with two RBI's while Kennedy Reynolds, Alex Schiff, McDougall and Maggie Moore each drove in a run.
McDougall picked up the win in the circle for the Mustangs, throwing three shutout innings with four strikeouts.
In their final game of the round-robin tourney on Saturday, the Mustangs squared off against rival Holy Innocents and came away with a convincing 13-1 win in four innings.
Reagan Hickey finished with two RBI's while going 2-for-3 at the plate.
Schiff, Moore, McDougall and Mollie Martin each drove in one run as well.
Westmoreland earned the win in the circle, tossing four innings, allowing one hit and one run with four strikeouts.
The Mustangs (5-0) are back in action on Thursday, August 17, taking on the Marist School in non-region play.
First pitch against the War Eagles is slated for 5:30 p.m. at Kitchin Field.
