ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Volleyball team picked up two wins in their season opener on Thursday night, August 17, defeating Atlanta Classical Academy 2-0 before rounding out the night with a 2-0 victory over host North Atlanta High School.
In the match against Atlanta Classical, the Mustangs took the first set 25-12 and ended the match with a 26-24 win in the second set.
Mount Vernon finished with 18 kills against Atlanta Classical along with 16 assists and six digs.
Sophia Van Name and Sophia Hardie paced the team with five kills apiece.
Anna-Charlotte Toole led the team with eight assists while teammate Emmy Heller finished with seven.
Mount Vernon finished with eight aces against Atlanta Classical Academy with seven different players recording at least one.
In the match against North Atlanta, the Mustangs took the first set 25-17 and closed out the match in the second set with a 25-22 triumph.
Van Name and Hardie led charge with four kills each while Kate Dawson finished with a team-best four digs.
Toole was the leader in assists, totaling all of Mount Vernon's 11 dimes.
Cate Jacobsen, Van Name and Hardie each picked up two aces in the winning bid as well.
The Mustangs (2-0) return to action on Saturday, August 19, partaking in the Holy Innocents Playdate.
Matches are set to begin at 8 a.m. at Holy Innocents Episcopal School.
