ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Volleyball team opened the home portion of its season on Tuesday afternoon, August 23, defeating the Atlanta Classical Academy Cavaliers 2-0 at the Upper Campus Gymnasium.
The Mustangs took the first set 25-15 and closed out the match with a convincing 25-11 victory in the second set.
The Mustangs finished with an impressive 10 aces in the first set with Sydney Brice and Kate Dawson each recording three.
Mount Vernon totaled seven kills in the first set with Claire Jacobsen, Taylor Docka and Sophia Hardie bagging two each.
Anna-Charlotte Toole led the squad in assists as well with seven.
In the second set, the Mustangs recorded eight more aces to finish with 18 for the match.
Emmy Heller, Cate Jacobsen Sophia Van Name and Dawson each finished with two aces apiece.
Van Name and Hardie led the charge with three kills while Toole paced the squad in assists with six.
The Mustangs (4-3) return to action on Thursday, August 24, taking on Northgate High School and Whitewater High School in a road tri-match.
First serve against Northgate is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. with the nightcap at 7:30 p.m. against the host Whitewater in Fayetteville, Ga.
