MILTON, Ga. - The Mount Vernon Varsity Softball team got back in the win column on Thursday afternoon, August 24, defeating the St. Francis Knights 9-0 in five innings in region play.
The Mustangs jumped on the Knights early, scoring three times in the first inning to take a 3-0 lead.
Priscilla Andrin and Kennedy Reynolds scored on a wild pitch to go up 2-0 and Grace Westmoreland scored on another wild toss later in the inning for a 3-0 advantage.
Mount Vernon added three more runs in the top of the second inning, with Olivia McDougall scoring first on another Knight wild pitch.
Westmoreland doubled two batters later to drive in Maggie Moore and Andrin for a 6-0 Mustang edge.
McDougall singled in the top of the third inning to bring home Lauren Dove to push Mount Vernon's lead to 7-0.
The Mustangs recorded their final two runs in the fourth frame on an Alex Schiff single that plated Andrin and Reynolds for a 9-0 lead.
Westmoreland picked up the win in the circle.
The righty tossed five innings, allowed just two hits and struck out 10 batters.
The Mustangs (7-4, 3-0 Reg. 6-1A DI) return to action on Tuesday, August 29, hosting Whitefield Academy in another region contest.
First pitch against the Wolfpack is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Mustang Park.
