ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Football team picked up its third straight win in as many tries on Friday, Sept. 1, defeating the Mount Paran Christian School Eagles 44-6 at Ron Hill Field.

After allowing a field goal on the opening drive of the game, the Mustangs rattled off 41 unanswered points to cruise to victory.

With 6:40 to play in the opening quarter, Sam Nazarian found Ethan Pajot for an 80-yard touchdown reception and the Mustangs converted the two-point play afterward to take an 8-5 lead.

After a defensive stop, the Mustangs struck again less than a minute into the second quarter when Nazarian rushed for a one-yard score.

Mount Vernon converted the two-point conversion again and went ahead 16-3.

Later in the quarter, the Mustangs turned to Walker Warshaw, who rushed for a 61-yard touchdown with 8:04 to play in the second frame.

Nathan Webb tacked on the extra point and the Mustangs pushed the lead to 23-3.

Mount Vernon continued to get defensive stops and scored two more times at the end of the first half.

Nazarian found Nate Thomas for a 35-yard touchdown followed by a one-yard rush for his second score to go ahead 37-3 at halftime.

The Mustangs posted their final touchdown of the game at the 10:44 mark of the third quarter on a Nazarian 57-yard completion to Bristan DeRocher. With Webb's PAT, Mount Vernon brought a running clock into play the remainder of the game leading 44-3.

Nazarian finished 9-for-10 with 243 yards and three touchdowns while Warshaw led the squad in rushing with 85 yards on nine carries.

Pajot was the top receiver for Mount Vernon, totaling 100 yards on three catches.

Mount Vernon (3-0) returns to action after their 'bye' week, traveling to Tattnall Square Academy on Friday, Sept. 15.

Kickoff against the Trojans is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in Macon, Ga.
