Mount Vernon Splits Region Matches Against Atlanta International, Galloway

ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Volleyball team returned to action after Labor Day Weekend on Tuesday, Sept. 5, taking on Atlanta International School and Galloway in a region tri-match at the Galloway Gymnasium.

The Mustangs split the matches, defeating Atlanta International 2-0 (25-22/25-20) before falling to Galloway 0-2 (16-25/24-26).

In the match against the AIS Eagles, the Mustang offense was well balanced, totaling 24 kills, 24 assists and 20 digs.

Mount Vernon finished with eight aces in the two-game sweep as well.

Taylor Docka led the team in kills with nine and aces with four.

Teammate Claire Jacobsen finished with eight kills and Kate Dawson netted seven more in the winning effort.

Cate Jacobsen was the leader in digs with eight while Anna-Charlotte Toole paced the squad with 23 assists.

In the nightcap against the host Galloway, the Mustangs struggled to put a sustained attack on the Scots.

The Mustangs finished with 13 digs, 12 kills and 12 assists.

Claire Jacobsen was the leader in kills with five, Dawson in digs with nine, and Toole in assists with 12.

Mount Vernon (9-9) returns to the court on Thursday, Sept. 7, traveling to the Lovett School for a tri-match against the Cross Keys Indians and Lovett Lions.

First serve against the Indians is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. with the match vs. the Lions set for 7:30 p.m. at Lovett's Wallace Gymnasium.
