Mustangs Pick Up 6-1 Region Win at Mt. Pisgah

JOHNS CREEK, Ga. - The Mount Vernon Varsity Softball team picked up a 6-1 region win on Thursday afternoon, Sept. 7, defeating the Mt. Pisgah Patriots 6-1 at the Patriot Athletic Campus.

The victory gives the Mustangs the season series over the Patriots 2-0, having won the prior matchup 11-9 back on August 22.

The Patriots led early, going up 1-0 on an Isabel Kirby sacrifice fly that brought in Keira Yi.

After a scoreless second, the Mustangs tied the game and took the lead for good in the third inning, scoring twice for a 2-1 lead.

Kennedy Reynolds tied the game with a RBI single to plate Mia Winokur followed by a Grace Westmoreland ground out that brought home Reynolds.

Priscilla Andrin added to the Mustang lead in the top of the fifth inning, blasting a 2-run home run over the left field wall to put Mount Vernon ahead 4-1.

Lauren Dove and Olivia McDougall recorded RBI singles later in the inning to push the Mustang lead to 6-1.

Westmoreland (7-2) picked up the win in the circle for the Mustangs, tossing seven innings while allowing two hits and one run with four strikeouts.

Mount Vernon (10-4, 6-0 Reg. 6-1A DI), winners of four straight, returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 9, hosting a round robin tournament at Mustang Park.

The Mustangs will take on Bleckley County at 10 a.m. and Pepperell at 2 p.m.

Pepperell and Bleckley County will face off in the middle game at 12 p.m. as well.
