MACON, Ga - The Mount Vernon Varsity Football team pushed its winning streak to four games on Friday night, Sept. 15, defeating the Tattnall Square Academy Trojans 40-20 at Jack Baynes Field.
The Mustangs struck first less than three minutes into the game when Sam Nazarian found Walker Warshaw for an 85-yard touchdown for a 7-0 lead.
Later in the quarter, Nazarian connected with Cole Palmer for a 42-yard touchdown. The PAT failed but the Mustangs led 13-0.
In the second quarter, both teams traded touchdowns.
Palmer scored again on a 13-yard touchdown reception and Jack Schimelman ran in a five-yard score.
Tattnall's Antone Johnson rushed in two touchdowns in the quarter but the Mustangs led at halftime 26-13.
The Trojans recovered an onside kick to begin the second half and scored on a Johnson 1-yard rush to pull within six at 26-20.
But the Mustangs closed out the game on a 14-0 run with a Bristan DeRocher touchdown catch and Walker Warshaw 3-yard rushing score.
Nazarian finished 14-for-20 with 260 yards and four touchdowns.
Palmer paced the squad in receiving with 90 yards on five catches while Warshaw was the leading rusher with 106 yards on 24 carries.
The Mustangs (4-0) return to action on Friday, Sept. 22, traveling to Athens Academy for a non-region contest.
Kickoff against the Spartans is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Slaughter Field in Athens, Ga.
