ATLANTA - Various Mount Vernon Varsity teams were in action over the weekend, Sept. 23-24.

Below is a quick recap from each team.
















VARSITY FOOTBALL:
The Mustangs fell to Athens Academy on the road 49-16, suffering their first loss of the 2023 season.

Sam Nazarian was 7-for-17 with 85 yards throwing, one touchdown and one interception.

Walker Warshaw rushed for over 100 yards as well.

The Mustangs are back in action on Friday, Sept. 29, hosting Elbert County for Homecoming 2023.

Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Ron Hill Field.


VARSITY VOLLEYBALL:
The Mustangs traveled to South Carolina to play in the Hilton Head Island Bash on Sept. 22-23.

The Mustangs played Travelers High School, Hilton Head Island High School and Philip Simmons High School on Friday night before being re-seeded for the final day.

Taylor Docka picked up All-Tournament honors for the Mustangs.

Mount Vernon is back on the court on Tuesday, Sept. 26, traveling to St. Francis for a region tri-match.


VARSITY CROSS COUNTRY:
The Varsity Boys and Varsity Girls competed on Saturday, Sept. 24 at the Wingfoot Classic at Sam Smith Park in Cartersville, GA.

Sophomore Haris Flynn brought home the first place medal in the Boys B Race on Saturday morning, crossing the finish line at 16:04, setting a new personal record.

Curran Jolly came in 11th overall at 16:55 to help lead the Mustangs to 14th place finish of 24 teams.

In the Varsity Girls race, the Mustangs finished 10th out of 20 schools.

Gracie Urban finished 19th overall with a time of 21:55.

Allie Parker came in 72nd with a time of 23:57 while Frankie Wheelan was 74th at 24:02.

The Mustangs are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 4, competing in the Wesleyan Invitational on Wednesday, Oct. 4.


VARSITY SOFTBALL:
The Mustangs pushed their win streak to 11 games by defeating the Chamblee Bulldogs 1-0 followed by a 7-6 comeback win over the Westminster Wildcats on Saturday, Sept. 23 at Mustang Park.

Reese Hickey pitched a two-hit shutout with six strikeouts and induced six infield pop-ups against Chamblee.

The offense was led by Priscilla Andrin with a double and Grace Westmoreland with an RBI triple.

Against Westminster, Grace Westmoreland picked up the win, notching six strikeouts, and giving up two earned runs.

Mia Winokur had three hits and Priscilla Andrin had two as well.

Andrin, Reagan Hickey, and Alex Schiff each had two RBI's.

Mount Vernon is back on the diamond on Tuesday, Sept. 26, traveling to play Blessed Trinity at 4:30 p.m.


VARSITY COMPETITION CHEER
The Mustangs placed first at the North Forsyth Cheer Classic on Saturday, Sept. 23.

Mount Vernon finished with a score of 50.5.

The Mustangs will be back on the mats at the 7th Annual Rumble at the Den on Saturday, Oct. 14 at North Paulding High School.
