ROSWELL, Ga. - The Mount Vernon Varsity Softball team pushed its winning streak to 12 on Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 26, defeating the Blessed Trinity Titans 6-5 in eight innings on the road in non-region play.
After trailing 4-1 after the first frame, the Mustangs would outscore Blessed Trinity 5-1 over the final seven innings to earn the win.
Mount Vernon pulled within one run in the top of the third inning when Grace Westmoreland and Reese Hickey notched RBI singles to make it a 4-3 game.
The Mustangs would even the contest in the fourth inning at 4-4 on a Titan infield error that plated Mollie Martin.
The Titans took a 5-4 lead late in the bottom of the sixth inning on an Allie Nevle double that plated Chelsea Lewis.
Down to their last out, the Mustangs rallied in the top of the seventh inning to tie the game at 5-5 on a Reese Hickey double to score Reagan Hickey.
Mount Vernon took the lead in the top of the eighth inning on a Priscilla Andrin triple that brought home Martin.
Westmoreland slammed the door in the bottom half of the eighth to earn the win for the Mustangs.
The righty allowed five runs (none earned) with five walkouts and two walks.
Mount Vernon (18-4) will look to continue its winning ways on Wednesday, Sept. 27, traveling to North Atlanta High School for a non-region contest.
First pitch against the Warriors is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
