ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Softball team pushed its win streak to 14 games on Thursday, Sept. 28, defeating the Decatur Bulldogs 8-0 in five innings at Mustang Park on Senior Night.
The Mustangs scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning, one in the fourth and two in the sixth to earn the win.
In the first, Grace Westmoreland doubled home Priscilla Andrin, Kennedy Reynolds scored on an error, and Lauren Dove doubled to bring in Westmoreland and Kirsten Abbott for an early 4-0 lead.
The final run of the inning came when Reagan Hickey scored on a wild pitch to make it 5-0 Mustangs.
Mount Vernon added another run in the fourth inning when Westmoreland singled home Reynolds for a 6-0 advantage.
Two innings later, the Mustangs scored two runs to bring the run rule into effect.
Westmoreland singled home Mollie Martin and Reagan Hickey hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Andrin to make it 8-0.
Westmoreland picked up the win in the circle for the Mustangs, tossing six shutout innings while scattering four hits and striking out 13 batters to earn her tenth win of the season.
Mount Vernon (20-4) returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 4, traveling to the Lovett School for a non-region game.
First pitch against the Lions is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Brooks Field.
