Volleyball Defeats Mt. Bethel Eagles 3-1 to Close Out Area Tournament

JOHNS CREEK, Ga. - The Mount Vernon Varsity Volleyball team concluded its run in the Area 6-1A Tournament on Thursday night, Oct. 12, defeating the Mt. Bethel Christian Academy Eagles 3-1 at Mt. Pisgah's Drummond Center.

Mount Vernon, the no. 3 seed from Area 6-1A, will now gear up for the Class-A State Playoffs, which are set to begin Wednesday, Oct. 18.

In Thursday's match, the Mustangs took the first two sets 25-15 and 26-24.

After dropping the third set 22-25, the Mustangs claimed the match victory with a 25-18 triumph in the fourth set.

Mount Vernon totaled 18 aces, 42 kills, 42 assists and 20 digs throughout the match.

Kate Dawson led the team in aces with six, followed by Abby Ethridge with four.

Taylor Docka and Sophia Hardie each finished in double-figures for kills, posting 19 and 13 respectively.

Claire Jacobsen totaled eight kills as well.

Anna-Charlotte Toole was the leader in assists with 34 and digs with four.

Mount Vernon will travel to Chattooga High School for its first round State Tournament match on Wednesday, Oct. 18 against the Indians.

Chattooga, the no. 2 seed from Area 7, finished the regular season with a 28-15 record.

Wednesday's match will be the first meeting ever between the two schools in volleyball action.

First serve is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in Summerville, Ga.
