The Mustangs accomplished that feat with a thrilling 3-2 victory at Chattooga High School on Wednesday evening, Oct. 18.
Mount Vernon dropped the first set 24-26 but rallied to take the second set 25-22 to even the best-of-five match at 1-1.
The Mustangs fell in the third set 23-25 but rallied to win the fourth set 25-16, forcing a winner-take-all fifth set.
Both squads battled back and forth but Mount Vernon would prevail 15-13 to take the win and advance.
Mount Vernon finished with 16 aces, 52 kills, 51 assists and 64 digs in the match.
Kate Dawson paced the team with six aces, Abby Ethridge netted four and Brooke Nazarian tallied three.
Two Mustangs finished in double-figures in kills with Taylor Docka leading the way with 19 and Sophia Hardie picking up 13.
Anna-Charlotte Toole was the leader in assists with 34 with Dawson and Toole each putting up four digs.
The Mustangs will now travel to Tallulah Falls School on Saturday, Oct. 21 for the Class-A Sweet 16 with first serve scheduled for 2 p.m.
