Epic Comeback Sends Mustangs Past Tallulah Falls 3-2 and Into Elite 8

TALLULAH FALLS, Ga. - The Mount Vernon Varsity Volleyball team staged a dramatic come-from-behind victory on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 21, defeating the Tallulah Falls Indians 3-2 to advance to the GHSA Class-A Elite 8 for a second consecutive season.

Down 0-2 in the best-of-five match, Mount Vernon rallied to win three straight sets to take the match.

Tallulah Falls won the first two sets 25-21 and 26-24.

Mount Vernon got on the board with a 25-22 victory in the third set followed by a 25-17 win in the fourth set.

The Mustangs secured the match victory with a 15-8 triumph in the fifth and final set to advance.

Mount Vernon posted 15 aces, 48 kills, 47 assists and 68 digs in the winning bid.

Kate Dawson led the team with seven aces while teammates Taylor Docka, Cate Jacobsen and Brooke Nazarian each netted two.

Sophia Hardie paced the squad with 19 kills while Docka posted 13.

Hannah Douglas had 46 of Mount Vernon's 47 assists.

Dawson and Cate Jacobsen combined for 33 kills in the match as well.

The Mustangs will now travel to Temple High School for the Class-A Elite 8 on Wednesday, Oct. 25.

Temple, the no. 2 seed from Region 4, defeated Randolph-Clay 3-0 in the first round followed by a 3-0 victory over Bryan County in the Sweet 16.

First serve against the Tigers is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
