Mustangs Best Temple Tigers 3-1 to Advance to Second Consecutive GHSA Final Four

TEMPLE, Ga. - For a second consecutive season, the Mount Vernon Varsity Volleyball team is going to the GHSA Class-A Final Four.

The Mustangs punched their ticket as one of four best teams remaining in the 2023 State Tournament with a convincing 3-1 victory over the Temple High School Tigers at Temple Gymnasium on Wednesday night. Oct. 25.

Mount Vernon took the first set 25-18 but dropped the second set 23-25.

MV took the pivotal third set 25-14 and closed out the match with a 25-17 victory in the fourth set.

The Mustangs tallied 15 aces, 40 kills, 39 assists and 47 digs in the winning bid.

Kate Dawson had the hot hand serving for the Mustangs, leading the team with five aces and pacing the team in digs with 17.

Taylor Docka attacked at the net, putting up 15 kills with teammate Sophia Hardie netting 12 and Claire Jacobsen posting eight.

Hannah Douglas was the leader in assists with 21 with Anna-Charlotte Toole close behind at 16.

Cate Jacobsen totaled eight digs, respectively.

Mount Vernon (25-18) will take on region foe Whitefield Academy on Saturday, Oct. 28 in the Final Four, with a win putting the team in the program's first GHSA State Championship match.

First serve for Saturday's contest against the Wolfpack is scheduled for 11 a.m. and will be played Marietta High School in Marietta, Ga.
