Mustangs Cruise to 95-30 Win Over Hope Christian to Open 2023-24 Season

ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Boys Basketball Team opened the 2023-24 season with a win, defeating Hope Christian 95-30 on Tuesday night, Nov. 15 at the Upper Campus Gymnasium.

The Mustangs led 32-6 after the first quarter and won the second quarter 27-10 to lead 59-16 at halftime.

Mount Vernon ended the game on 31-14 run to seal the win.

KJ Garris paced the Mustangs in scoring with a game-high 31 points.

Teammate Sha'Yah Goba poured in 25 points in the winning effort as well.

MV controlled the tempo of the game, scoring 41 field goals inside the 3-point line.

Mount Vernon struck for just two 3-pointer in the game and was 7-of-9 from the free throw line.

The Mustangs (1-0) return to action on Saturday, Nov. 18, taking on Sandy Creek High School at the OTR Tip-Off Classic.

Opening tip is slated for 2 p.m. at Norcross High School in Norcross, Ga.
