JOHNS CREEK, Ga. - The Mount Vernon Varsity Boys Basketball team picked up another region victory on Tuesday night, Jan. 9, defeating the Mt. Pisgah Patriots 69-43 at the Drummond Center Gymnasium.
The Mustangs outscored the Patriots 41-18 in the second half to seal the victory.
Mount Vernon led 17-12 at the end of the first quarter but the Patriots bounced back to win the second period 13-12 to make it a 28-25 MV lead at halftime.
The Mustang defense came alive in the second half, limiting the Patriots to just 18 points.
Xavier Shegog (16 points and 11 rebounds) and Dennis "Trey" Scott, II (11 points and 13 rebounds) each netted a double-double in the winning bid.
Sha'Yah Goba poured in 16 points and corralled seven rebounds as well.
KJ Garris rounded out the four Mustangs in double figures with 16 points.
The Mustangs attacked the Patriots inside for much of the night, only accounting for three made 3-pointers.
Mount Vernon (10-7, 4-0 Reg. 6-1A DI) returns to the court on Thursday, Jan. 11, traveling to play the Weber School Rams in another region contest.
The game will be played at Atlanta Jewish Academy's gymnasium with tip-off scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
