ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Boys Basketball team stayed unbeaten in region play on Friday night, Jan. 19, defeating the Galloway School Scots 72-50 at the Upper Campus Gymnasium.

The Mustangs led 11-10 after a back-and-forth first quarter.

But in the second period, MV secured a 25-10 run that included five made 3-pointers to go ahead 35-20 at halftime.

The Mustangs continued to push ahead offensively to open the second half, outscoring the Scots 17-11 to lead 52-31 at the end of the third period.

Mount Vernon ended the game on a 20-19 run to secure the victory.

Sha'Yah Goba and KJ Garris paced the Mustangs in scoring with 18 points each.

Pace Bottom pumped in 13 points while Dennis "Trey" Scott, III added 10 points and six rebounds.

Gabe Alterman returned to action after nearly a month away with injury racking up eight assists as well.

Mount Vernon capitalized from behind the arc, draining seven 3-pointers in the winning bid.

The Mustangs (13-8, 6-0 Reg. 6-1A DI) return to the court on Tuesday, Jan. 23 hosting the Paideia School in another key region matchup.

Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at MV's Upper Campus Gymnasium.
