Mustangs Open 2024 Campaign with 7-2 Win at Midtown

ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Boys Baseball team secured a season-opening victory on Wednesday night, Feb. 14, defeating Midtown High School 7-2 on the road.

Mount Vernon struck first, scoring three runs in the opening inning to take a 3-0 lead.

Nate Thomas scored on a wild pitch followed by a Rigby Anderson single to drive in Hampton Hudson and Alec Fahlbusch.

Midtown got a run back in the bottom of the fourth inning to cut the Mustang lead to 3-1.

But Mount Vernon responded with a three-run sixth to go ahead 6-1.

Hudson Forrest singled home Hudson and Anderson singled to bring in Maddox Chasman and Forrest.

MV plated its final run of the contest in the top of the sixth inning on a Hudson sacrifice fly that plated Thomas.

Mount Vernon outhit Midtown 7-2 on the day and both squads each committed two errors in the field.

Forrest picked up the win on the mound for the Mustangs, tossing two shutout innings with two strikeouts and one walk.

Will Flowers, Jack Riddle and Chasman all saw time in relief as well.

Mount Vernon (1-0) returns to the diamond on Saturday, Feb. 17 for its home opener.

The Mustangs will take on the First Presbyterian Day School Vikings in a doubleheader.

Game 1 is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. with Game 2 to follow at 3:30 p.m. at Mustang Park
