DUNWOODY, Ga. - The Mount Vernon Varsity Boys and Girls Tennis teams picked up region victories over Paideia on Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 20 at Dunwoody Country Club.
The Varsity Boys won 4-1 while the Varsity Girls shutout the Pythons 5-0.
With the victories, both squads are now 2-0 in region play.
In the boys match, Liam O'Leary (no. 1 singles) and Cadyn Dawson (no. 2 singles) had dominant wins 6-1, 6-0. Lawson Byers & Colin Walker rolled to a 6-0, 6-2 victory at no. 1 doubles.
Nico Tur had the match of the day at no. 3 singles winning a close contest 7-5, 6-4.
In the girls match, Hunter Reese Giardino won her second straight no. 1 singles match and did so in convincing fashion, 6-2, 6-1.
Brooke Nazarian also won big at no. 2 singles 6-3, 6-3 while Lucille Kincaid wrapped up the singles competition, winning easily in straight sets 6-1, 6-2 at the no. 3 spot.
Edee Moorman and Maggie McKenzie got their second straight doubles win today at no. 1 doubles 6-1, 6-4.
Kate Duncan and Emma Zlotnick made it a perfect day for the girls with their 6-1, 6-0 win at no. 2 doubles.
The Varsity Boys (4-4, 2-0) and Varsity Girls (4-4, 2-0) are back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 21 hosting Pace Academy in a non-region match.
First serve is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Dunwoody Country Club.
