Boys Soccer Ties with Holy Innocents in 2024 Home Opener, 3-3

ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Boys Soccer team took to the pitch on Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 20, taking on the Holy Innocents Golden Bears at Ron Hill Field in the 2024 home opener.

Mount Vernon battled back in the second half, took the lead briefly and ended the match in a 3-3 tie.

MV's first goal of the match came in the first half when Korey Philpot scored on an assist from Aidan Berry.

After trailing 2-1 at halftime, the Mustangs battled back to tie the match at 2-2 with less than 10 minutes to play in regulation.

Nick Sroka scored inside the box on another Berry assist.

MV took the lead late on a goal by Landron Hoyal that was assisted by George Walmsley to go ahead 3-2.

Holy Innocents would tie the match in the final minute, resulting in a 3-3 draw.

Ian Stukalsky picked up 10 saves for the Mustangs.

MV also registered 11 shots on goal in the match.

Mount Vernon (0-2-3) returns to action on Friday, Feb. 23 traveling to the Wesleyan School for a non-region match.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Henderson-Robinson Field.
