SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. - The Mount Vernon Varsity Boys and Varsity Girls Tennis squads returned to action on Thursday afternoon, Feb. 22, hosting Fulton Science Academy at Sandy Springs Tennis Center.
The Varsity Boys won 4-1 while the Varsity Girls secured a 5-0 shutout.
In the boys match, Liam O'Leary picked up a win at no. 1 singles 8-2 and Cadyn Dawson picked up a back-and-forth match, winning 8-4.
Nico Tur dominated his opponent at no. 3 singles 8-0.
Colin Walker & Matthew Zeldin played a nail-biter at no. 1 doubles, narrowly edging out their opponents 9-7.
In the Varsity Girls match, MV won in convincing fashion.
Hunter Reese Giardino played the longest match of the day at no. 1 singles and edged her opponent out 8-6 in the end.
Jamie Berzack impressed at no. 2 singles and brought home an 8-5 win.
Taylor Gravely's no. 3 singles opponent proved no trouble, winning her match 8-3.
Brooke Nazarian & Emma Zlotnick played a close match at no. 1 double but came out on top 9-7.
MV secured the shutout with Kate Duncan & Caroline Wright also blew out the competition, winning 8-1 at no. 2 doubles.
The Varsity Boys (5-5) and Varsity Girls (5-5) return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 27, traveling to Atlanta International for a region match.
First serve is slated for 3 p.m. at Frankie Allen Park.
