ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Boys and Girls Tennis squads picked up key region victories on Tuesday, Feb. 27, defeating the Atlanta International Eagles 3-2 at Frankie Allen Park.
In the boys match, Liam O'Leary raced past his opponent 8-1 at no. 1 singles while Cadyn Dawson blanked the competition 8-0 at no. 2 singles.
Nico Tur had no problem at no. 3 singles, winning 8-2.
Colin Walker & Lawson Byers played a strong pair at no. 1 doubles, coming up just short 3-8.
Matthew Zeldin & Hugh Carter played a back-and-forth match at no. 2 doubles, falling just short in a tiebreak 8-9 (5-7).
In girls play, Daniela O'Leary dominated her no. 1 singles opponent 8-0.
Brooke Nazarian & Hunter Reese Giardino were in control of their match, taking an 8-3 win at no. 1 doubles.
Kate Duncan & Mary Laborde played a strong match at no. 2 doubles, wining in convincing fashion 8-2.
The Varsity Boys (6-5, 3-0 Region 6-1A DI) and Varsity Girls (6-5, 3-0) return to the court after Interim and Spring Break on Tuesday, March 19 traveling to Mt. Bethel Christian Academy.
First serve against the Eagles is scheduled for 4 p.m. in Marietta, Ga.
