The Mustangs secured a spot in the 1A-DI State Championship by defeating the Mt. Pisgah Patriots 77-39 at GCSU's Centennial Center on Friday, March 1 in the Final Four.
Mount Vernon jumped out to an 18-7 lead after the first quarter and used a 21 point second period to go ahead 39-17 lead at halftime.
The Mustangs continued to attack offensively, securing a 19-14 run in the third quarter to lead 58-31 going to the final quarter.
MV closed the game on a 19-8 run to seal the win and advance to the State Finals.
Sha'Yah Goba paced the Mustangs in scoring with 23 points.
Teammate Xavier Shegog posted his third consecutive double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
KJ Garris netted 15 points while Dennis "Trey" Scott, IIII posted nine points and nine rebounds.
Mount Vernon (22-9) is now one win away from it's first GHSA State Championship, which will take place on Saturday, March 9 at the Macon Centreplex in Macon, Ga.
The Mustangs will face a familiar region foe in the Paideia Pythons, who defeated Savannah 56-39 in their Final Four game.
Paideia bested the Mustangs in the regular season 61-58 on Jan. 23 but MV returned the favor in the Region Tournament Championship game back on Feb. 17, winning 66-48.
Tip-off for the State Championship game is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday.
