Mustangs Return from Break with 8-5 Region Win Over Galloway

ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Baseball team returned to the field on Tuesday afternoon, March 19, taking on region rival Galloway at Mustang Park.

MV came away with an 8-5 victory, pushing its win streak to two games.

Mount Vernon scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 3-0 lead.

Will Flowers singled home Landon Brice and Hudson Forrest followed by a Hampton Hudson double that brought home Flowers.

Galloway took the the lead in the third inning, scoring five runs to go ahead 5-3.

The Mustangs got one run back in the bottom of the third inning on a Hudson sacrifice fly that brought in Flowers for a 5-4 game.

An inning later in the fourth, MV took the lead for good, scoring four runs.

Forrest singled to score Harrison Mills and Nate Thomas for a 6-5 game.

Hudson followed with a sacrifice fly to right field that allowed Brice to come home for a 7-5 contest.

The Mustangs added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning on a Harris Meriwether infield single that brought in Brice for an 8-5 advantage.

Maddox Chasman picked up the win on the mound for MV, tossing four innings, allowing just two hits and striking out five batters.

Hudson led the team in RBI's with three while teammates Forrest and Flowers each had two.

MV put the ball in play well, only striking out twice as a team.

Mount Vernon (3-5, 2-1 Reg. 6-1A DI) returns to action on Wednesday, March 20, traveling to Galloway to close out the regular season region series.

First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at the Warren Road Complex.
