Boys Win, Girls Fall in Region Matches at Mt. Bethel

MARIETTA, Ga. - The Mount Vernon Varsity Boys and Girls Tennis teams returned to the courts on Tuesday, March 19, taking on the Mt. Bethel Christian Academy Eagles on the road in region play.

The Varsity Boys came away with a 5-0 shutout while the Varsity Girls fell 2-3.

In the boys match, the Mustangs rolled to a victory with ease.

Liam O'Leary (1S), Cadyn Dawson (2S), and Nico Tur (3S) all won their lines 6-1, 6-0.

Lawson Byers & Colin Walker steamrolled their 1D opponents 6-1, 6-1, with Walker served up six aces in the win.

Matthew Collins (2D) won 7-5, 6-1, earning him his first varsity win.

In the girls match, Daniela O'Leary (1S) dropped a close match 5-7, 5-7.

Hunter Reese Giardino (2S) came up just short 5-7, 6-1, 6-10 while Brooke Nazarian (3S) came through with a win 6-1, 6-3.

Kate Duncan and Emma Zlotnick blanked their 2D opponents 6-0, 6-0.

Edee Moorman and Taylor Gravely lost their first set 3-6 and were down in the second set but came roaring back to win it 7-3 in a tiebreak.

The third set went to yet another tiebreak, but they came up just short, 8-10.

The Varsity Boys (7-5, 4-0 Region) and Varsity Girls (6-6, 3-1 Region) return to the courts on Wednesday, March 20, hosting Galloway in a region showdown.

First serve is set for 3 p.m. at the Sandy Springs Tennis Center.
