Girls and Boys Soccer Sweep Home Region Matches Against St. Francis

ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Girls and Boys Soccer squads returned to the pitch on Tuesday, March 19, taking on the St. Francis Knights in region play at Ron Hill Field.

The Varsity Girls won 8-0 while the Varsity Boys claimed a 6-0 victory.

In the girls match, MV led 3-0 at halftime and outscored the Knights 5-0 in the second period.

Mount Vernon was paced by the hat trick of Eden Wassersug.

Teammates Taylor Baker and Sienna Tiffin netted two goals each.

Emi Lutz and Rachel Reeve also scored to lead the Mustang offensive attack.

Reeve led the team with three assists with Wassersug and Tiffin picking up two assists.

Bella Champney picked up three saves in goal for the Mustangs as well.

In the boys match, MV opened up a 5-0 lead by halftime and scored one goal in the second period.

Korey Philpot finished with a hat trick to lead the Mustang charge.

Charlie Newton, George Walmsley and Nick Sroka each had one goal to their credit with Sroka's coming on a penalty kick.

Landron Hoyal picked up three assists with Sroka earning two.

Harrison Estenson snagged one save in goal for the Mustangs.

The Varsity Girls and Boys are back in action on Friday, March 22 traveling to King's Ridge Christian School for another region match.

The Varsity Girls kick off at 5:30 p.m. followed by the Varsity Boys at 7:30 p.m. at Archer Field.
