DUNWOODY, Ga. - The Mount Vernon Varsity Boys and Girls Tennis teams picked up region wins on Monday afternoon, March 25, defeating the King's Ridge Christian School Tigers 5-0 at Dunwoody Country Club on Senior Day.
In the Varsity Boys match, MV maintained their undefeated status in the region while earning their sixth consecutive victory.
Liam O'Leary won his match 6-2, 6-1 at no. 1 singles and Cadyn Dawson breezed his way to a 6-0, 6-0 rout at no. 2 singles.
Nico Tur had a straightforward 6-1, 6-1 win at no. 3 singles as well.
Lawson Byers & Colin Walker had no problems at no. 1 doubles, winning 6-1, 6-2.
Matthew Collins & Matthew Zeldin secured the shutout at no. 2 doubles, winning handily, 6-2, 6-2.
In the Varsity Girls match, MV had a perfect day, taking all five lines.
Daniela O'Leary handled her opponent quickly at no. 1 singles and Lucille Kincaid played well in her win at no. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-3.
Hunter Reese Giardino & Brooke Nazarian made quick work of their no. 1 doubles opponents, 6-1, 6-1.
Kate Duncan & Taylor Gravely won by default, as King's Ridge had to forfeit at no. 2 doubles.
Emma Zlotnick had an intense match at no. 2 singles.
After losing the first set 3-6, Zlotnick fought back to take the second set 6-3 to force a tiebreak.
The tiebreak went back and forth with Zlotnick coming out on top 10-7.
The Mustangs are back in action on Thursday, March 28 hosting Whitefield Academy in another region match.
First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the Sandy Springs Tennis Center.
