Mustangs Earn 11-8 Region Win Over Mt. Bethel Eagles

ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Baseball team picked up a key region victory on Wednesday afternoon, March 27, defeating the Mt. Bethel Christian Academy Eagles 11-8 at Mustang Park.

MV started the scoring early, going up 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning on a Landon Brice RBI groundout that scored Nate Thomas.

The Mustangs added two more runs in the bottom of the second inning to go ahead 3-0 on a Thomas triple to right field that plated Ethan Pajot and Rigby Anderson.

The bats continued to produce as MV scored five more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a commanding 8-0 lead.

In that productive frame, Alec Fahlbusch doubled to bring home Harris Merriweather and Hampton Hudson followed by a Nate Shumway single that drove in Bennett Bogdanchik.

Anderson singled one batter later to plate Pajot and came around to score when Thomas reached on an Eagle infield error.

Mt. Bethel scored two runs to cut into the Mustang lead in the top of the fourth inning.

MV got those two runs back in the bottom of the fifth inning, the first on a Hudson Forrest triple that allowed Brice to score.

Forrest would come in to score two batters later after a Mt. Bethel balk on the mound for a 10-2 Mustang advantage.

The Eagles didn't go away quietly, scoring two more runs in the top of the sixth inning to cut the Mustang lead to six at 10-4.

MV's final run of the contest game in the bottom of the sixth inning when Pajot crossed home on a throwing error.

Mount Vernon held off a late Eagle comeback attempt in the top of seventh inning. Mt. Bethel scored four runs but could do no more.

Shumway picked up the win on the mound for MV.

The righty tossed four innings, allowing three hits and two runs while striking out seven batters.

The Mustangs (6-6, 5-2 Region 6-1A DI) are back in action on Friday, March 29, traveling to Mt. Bethel to complete the region season series.

First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at the Mt. Paran North Church Playing Fields.
