ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Baseball team picked up a critical region victory on Wednesday afternoon, April 3, defeating the Mt. Pisgah Patriots 7-3 at Mustang Park.
MV jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Landon Brice scored on a passed ball.
The Patriots took their first lead of the game in the top of third inning when Jack Ward doubled to right field to score two runs, giving Pisgah a 2-1 advantage.
Mount Vernon took the lead back in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Hampton Hudson doubled to right field to score Harris Meriwether followed by a Patriot infield error later in the inning that allowed Hudson to come home for a 3-2 Mustang lead.
The Patriots tied the game in the top of the fifth inning on an Aidan Pullaro solo home run to left field.
MV would close out the game on a 4-0 run, scoring two runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings.
Will Flowers picked up the win on the mound for MV.
The righty tossed six innings, allowing three runs on three hits with five strikeouts and two walks.
Hudson Forrest threw an inning of relief with one strikeout as well.
Mount Vernon (8-7, 7-3 Reg. 6-1A DI) will complete the regular season series with Mt. Pisgah, traveling to play the Patriots on Friday, April 5.
First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the Patriot Athletic Campus in Johns Creek, Ga.
