Girls and Boys Soccer Defeat Athens Academy on Senior Night

ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Girls and Boys Soccer squads were in action on Friday afternoon, April 5, taking on the Athens Academy Spartans at Ron Hill Field on Senior Night.

Both teams picked up impressive wins, with the Varsity Girls prevailing 2-0 and the Varsity Boys winning 1-0.

In the girls match, Mount Vernon got a first half goal from Eden Wassersug to lead 1-0 at halftime.

In the second half, the Mustangs put the match away late with a goal from Stella Olives off a corner kick from Lilla Adams.

Bella Champney had 16 saves in goal for the Mustangs.

MV totaled 19 shots in the match as well.

In the boys match, the Mustangs and Spartans battled to a 0-0 tie at halftime.

Late in the second period, MV finally broke through with a goal from Aidan Berry on an assist from George Walmsley.

Harrison Estenson had seven saves in goal for the Mustangs.

MV managed 29 shots in the match.

Both teams are back in action on Tuesday, April 9, hosting Fellowship Christian School.

Kickoff for the Varsity Girls match is slated for 4 p.m. followed by the Varsity Boys at 6 p.m.
