Mustangs Best Paideia Pythons on Senior Night, 12-2

ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Baseball team snapped a three-game slide on Wednesday afternoon, April 17, defeating the Paideia School Pythons 12-2 in six innings at Mustang Park on Senior Night.

After a run in the top of the first for Paideia, MV tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the first inning when Will Flowers singled home Nate Thomas.

MV took the lead for good in the bottom of the third inning, scoring six runs.

Thomas singled home Ben Bastek followed by a Flowers single that plated Hudson Forrest and Landon Brice for a 4-1 advantage.

Harris Meriwether followed with a bunt that was mishandled by the Paideia defense that allowed Flowers and Carson Albert to come home.

The final run of the inning came when Rigby Andersons crossed home on a wild pitch to give MV a 7-1 lead.

Paideia added a run in the top of the fifth inning, making it a 7-2 contest in favor of the Mustangs.

MV brought the run rule into effect in the bottom of the sixth inning, scoring four runs.

Anderson walked with the bases loaded, Hampton Hudson singled to plate Anderson and Thomas.

Meriwether followed with another single to bring in Hudson and Anderson for a 12-2 final score.

Jack Riddle picked up the win on the mound for the Mustangs.

The righty tossed two innings, allowing one run with two walks and one strikeout.

Forrest pitched four innings of relief, surrendering just one run on one hit with three strikeouts.

MV (10-10) returns to action on Friday, April 19, traveling to King's Ridge for the final game of the regular season.

A win clinches a GHSA playoff pot for the Mustangs.

First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Veterans Baseball Field in Alpharetta, Ga.
