Track and Field Recap: Area Meet (Day 2)

ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Boys and Girls Track & Field squads closed out the Area 6-1A DI Meet on Friday, April 19 at Atlanta International School.

More Mustangs qualified for Sectionals after the completion of the event.

Region 6 A D1 Championships Day 2 Finals Recap (Corrected Version to include Girls 4x100m Relay participants)

The Mustangs carried over the success from Day 1 of the Area Championships right into Day 2. At the end of the day, The Mustang Girls team finished 3rd Overall and The Boys team finished as Region runner ups for Area 6 A-D1

Junior Kennedy Reynolds kicked off Day Two by defending her Region title in the Girls 100M Hurdles with a GA top 25 time of 14.75

The Girls 4x100 Relay consisting of Elizabeth Ramos, Savannah Davis, Asiah Franklyn and Sumirra Dirir finished in the Top 4 to advance to Sectionals.

With the 400M as the very next event, junior Alexis Smith claimed her first region title in the girls with freshman teammate Cora Champney finishing in the Top 4 to advance to Sectionals.

In the boys 400M Dash, junior Ethan Pajot ran a personal record time of 51.49 to place second and advance to Sectionals.

In the Girls 300M Hurdles, Kennedy Reynolds was back to defend her second consecutive Region Title and she delivered in exhilarating fashion. Reynolds dropped a USA Top 50 time of 43.59 leaving the next competitor by two seconds.

In the Boys 800M, sophomore Haris Flynn ran a new school record time of 1:55 to land in the Georgia Top 25 while teammate Curran Jolly also broke the school record with a blazing 1:57.44 that landed him in the Georgia Top 50.

Alexis Smith returned for the 200M Dash and finished in the Top 3 with a new personal record that advances her to sectionals.

The Boys 200M dash saw newcomer Ethan Pajot punch his ticket to sectionals with a Top 4 finish.

In the Girls and Boys 4x400M Relay, Cora Champney, Alexis Smith, Gracie Urban and Kennedy Reynolds broke their previous school record time by winning the Region Championship and cementing themselves as the no. 1 Class A-D1 4x400M Relay in the State.

The Boys 4x400M Relay of Collin Maher, Ethan Pajot, Curran Jolly and Haris Flynn raced to a Region Championship and posted the no. 2 time in the State’s A-D1 classification.

The Mustangs return to action at GHSA Sectionals on Saturday, May 4 at Whitefield Academy.

Events are set to begin at 10:30 a.m. in Mableton, GA.
