MOUNT VERNON SCHOOL SECURES PRESTIGIOUS DIRECTOR’S CUP WIN FOR ATHLETICS PROGRAM

ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon School is proud to announce a historic milestone: for the first in school history it has clinched the prestigious Georgia Athletic Directors Association (GADA) Director's Cup. The highest achievement a high school athletic program can receive, the Director’s Cup is reflective of the overall success of the entire athletic program, with points awarded for each team based on their finish in the GHSA state playoffs.

The Mount Vernon Mustang’s victory in the Directors Cup is bolstered by three state championship team titles in Boys Basketball, Girls Tennis, and Boys Golf and two State Finalists titles in Softball, and Boys Tennis. The Mount Vernon 2023 - 2024 Athletics season also boasts several individual state champions. The momentum of the Athletic program is underscored by the School’s announcement in September of the “Let’s Do This” capital campaign, a two-phased initiative focusing on athletics, health, and well-being that will transform the campus.

Athletic Director Brad Dehem proudly remarked, “Our athletic program empowers students to grow and excel through preparation, practice, and performance. We design competitive programs led by growing, masterful, and passionate coaches who are focused on the skill development, health & well-being, and leadership growth of all student-athletes. The Director’s Cup recognition is a testament to our coaches and student-athletes and their hard work and dedication.”

Evidence of the momentum of the Athletics program was also celebrated at last week’s graduation ceremony when 12 signed athletes received their diplomas, marking the largest group of seniors in school history who will go on to play college sports.

About The Regions Bank Director’s Cup
The Regions Bank Director’s Cup recognizes those athletic departments in all GHSA classifications that have excelled and shown superior performance. Since the 1999-2000 school year, the GADA has presented this award annually. Award-winning schools will receive a Regions Bank Directors Cup Trophy and a Wall Banner.
