ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Softball team returned home on Saturday, August 24, hosting a round-robin tournament with Westminster and Chamblee.
MV dropped the opening game to Westminster in eight innings, 5-3 before rallying to defeat Chamblee 5-1 in the final game of the day.
In the first game of the day against the Wildcats, Reese Hickey finished 2-3 with two RBI's to pace the Mustang offense.
Priscilla Andrin had three hits while teammates Olivia McDougall and Alex Schiff each recorded two.
Against Chamblee, MV grabbed the lead in the bottom of the second inning on a Bella Durkee triple that scored Mollie Martin.
After the Bulldogs tied the game in the third inning, MV would take the lead for good in the fifth, plating three runs.
The Mustangs added an insurance run in the sixth to help seal the victory.
Hickey and McDougall each had two RBI's while Kennedy Reynolds, Andrin and Durkee had two hits apiece.
Hickey picked up the win in the circle, tossing a complete game allowing one run on three hits with nine strikeouts.
MV (3-7) returns to the diamond on Tuesday, August 27 hosting Landmark Christian for a Region 5-1A DI contest.
First pitch against the War Eagles is schedule for 5 p.m. at Mustang Park.
