Mustangs Sweep Home Opener Against Oak Mountain, Cross Keys

ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Volleyball team swept its 2024 home opener on Tuesday night, September 3, defeating Oak Mountain Academy and Cross Keys 2-0 at the Upper Campus Gym.

In the first match of the night against Oak Mountain, MV took the first set 25-13 and cruised to a match win with a 25-8 win in the second set.

MV racked up 14 aces in the win, with Taylor Docka leading the way with four.

Teammates Hannah Douglas and Emilia Anderson also had three aces each.

Douglas was also active in aiding the Mustangs in scoring with 12 assists.

Mount Vernon totaled 21 digs in the match, led by the five of Anna-Charlotte Toole and Brooke Nazarian.

In the second match of the night, the Mustangs handled Cross Keys with ease in two sets, 25-4 and 25-14.

Claire Jacobsen led the squad with six aces while Ellie Wood had a team-high five kills.

MV posted 28 digs in the match paced by Brooke Nazarians' seven.

Mount Vernon (14-6), winners of four straight, is back in the court on Saturday, Sept. 10 at the North Cobb High School Warrior Invitational.

Matches are set to begin at 2:30 p.m. in Kennesaw, Ga.
