ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Softball team kept to its winning ways over the weekend, defeating the Lovett School 12-0 followed by a 5-1 victory over Blessed Trinity at Mustang Park on Saturday, Sept. 7.
In the first game of the day against Lovett, MV came away with a 12-0 victory in four innings.
Mount Vernon racked up 12 hits in the game paced by the three hits of Kennedy Reynolds.
Priscilla Andrin was 2-for-2 with a home run and two runs driven in.
Maggie Moore also drove in two runs with a 1-for-1 performance at the dish.
Reese Hickey picked up the win in the circle for MV, tossing three innings with seven strikeouts and no walks.
In the afternoon contest against Blessed Trinity, the Mustangs came away with a 5-1 triumph.
Mount Vernon scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a 1-1 tie and give the Mustangs the lead for good.
Hickey was 1-for-3 at the plate with two RBI's while Olivia McDougall, Alex Schiff and Andrin accounted for one RBI each.
Hickey was brilliant in the circle, allowing just one run while scattering four hits. The righty struck out nine batters en route to the win.
With her 16 punch-outs on the day, Hickey also surpassed over 300 career strikeouts.
MV (9-7), winners of nine straight, will return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 10, traveling to Galloway for a Region 5-1A contest.
First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the Warren Road Complex.
