ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Softball team picked up its ninth consecutive victory on Thursday night, Sept. 12, defeating the Mount Paran Christian School Eagles 4-3 in 10 innings in region play at Mustang Park.

With the bases loaded in the bottom of the tenth inning and trailing 3-2, Alex Schiff scorched a single up the middle to bring home Mamie Bown and Taylor D'Auria to give the Mustangs the win.

A pitchers duel throughout most of the contest, the Eagles would get on the board first when Caroline Lussier grounded out to plate Lillie Mae Norton for a 1-0 Mount Paran lead in the top of the second inning.

MV tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the third inning on a Kennedy Reynolds double that brought home D'Auria.

The Mustangs took their first lead of the contest in the bottom of the sixth inning when Dillan Pajot singled to right field that plated Bowen for a 2-1 advantage.

The Eagles tied the game in their last at-bat in regulation when Norton homered over the left field wall.

After a scoreless eighth and ninth, the Eagles would break the deadlock in the top of the tenth on a bases loaded walk by Shayna Suttles that scored Hadley O'Kelley.

In the bottom of the tenth, Bowen started at second per the extra-inning rule and D'Auria singled to right field placing runners at the corners with no outs.

Reynolds was intentionally walked setting the stage for Schiff's heroics.

Reese Hickey picked up the win in the circle for the Mustangs, tossing a complete game and allowing five hits.

The right-handed hurler struck out a whopping 16 batters on the day.

MV (11-7) returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 18 hosting Marist.

First pitch against the War Eagles is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Mustang Park.
