ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Football team returned from a two-week hiatus in a major way, defeating the B.E.S.T. Academy Eagles 57-20 on Friday, Sept. 13 at Ron Hill Field.
MV led 16-0 at the end of the first quarter and outscored the Eagles 7-6 in the second period to lead 23-6 at halftime.
The Mustangs posted 28 points in the third period while allowing 14 points to go into the fourth quarter ahead 50-20.
With a running clock in the final quarter, MV added one more score while holding the Eagles scoreless to take the win.
Senior quarterback Bristan DeRocher was 17-for-21 for the Mustangs while posting 222 yards and two touchdowns.
Additionally, the fleet-footed QB rushed for four touchdowns and 167 yards on 15 carries.
Senior running back Walker Warshaw posted a strong performance, racking up 123 yards on 20 carries with two touchdowns.
Receivers Jack Rego and Nate Thomas each had one receiving touchdown as well for the Mustangs.
Mount Vernon (2-1) is back in action on Friday, Sept. 20, traveling to Mount Pisgah for a key Region 5-1A contest.
Kickoff against the Patriots is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Patriot Athletic Campus in Johns Creek.
