JOHNS CREEK, Ga. - The Mount Vernon Varsity Football team picked up its second consecutive win on Friday night, Sept. 20, defeating the Mount Pisgah Patriots 35-3 at the Patriot Athletic Campus.
Mount Vernon got out of the gate quick in the first quarter when Nate Thomas recovered a fumble on the kickoff and returned it for touchdown.
MV would score again in the second quarter on a Walker Warshaw 74-yard rush to give the Mustangs a 14-0 lead by halftime.
The Mustangs erupted for 21 third quarter points.
Warshaw had a 26-yard touchdown run followed by an Ethan Pajot 24-yard reception to give the Mustangs a 28-0 advantage.
The final score of the third period came on a Nate Thomas pick-six to push MV ahead 35-0.
Mount Vernon finished with 263 yards of total offense on the night, 193 of which came via the run.
Warshaw rushed for 164 yards on 12 carries while Jack Rego led the team in receiving with 26 yards.
Nick Sroka was perfect on all PAT's as well.
Mount Vernon (3-1) is back in action on Friday, Sept. 28 hosting Fellowship Christian School for Homecoming 2024.
Kickoff against the Paladins is scheduled for 4:15 p.m. at Ron Hill Field.
