ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Softball team picked up a non-region victory on Monday afternoon defeating Social Circle High School 9-1 on Senior Night at Mustang Park.
MV jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first inning when Olivia McDougall reached on a Social Circle infield error that scored Alex Schiff and Dillan Pajot.
Social Circle cut the Mustang lead in half in the top of the second inning on a solo home run by E. Turner.
But in the bottom of the third inning, MV erupted for six runs highlighted by a grand slam by McDougall to lead 7-1.
MV added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on a Maggie Moore double that plated Pajot and McDougall to bring the run rule into effect.
Reese Hickey picked up the win in the circle for Mount Vernon.
The righty tossed 4.2 innings while allowing one run on three hits with six strikeouts.
McDougall tossed one-third of an inning in relief as well.
Mount Vernon (13-10) is back in action on Tuesday, Oct. 1 traveling to King's Ridge Christian School to close out the region schedule.
First pitch against the Tigers is slated for 5 p.m. at the Tiger Softball Field in Alpharetta, Ga.
