Mustangs Defeat King's Ridge 12-8 in Region Tournament Semifinals

PEACHTREE CORNERS, Ga. - The Mount Vernon Varsity Softball team picked up a key 12-8 victory over the King's Ridge Christian School Tigers on Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 8, to remain alive in the Region 5-1A Tournament.

Playing at the Wesleyan School, MV led 3-1 after the first inning but squandered the lead in the top of the third by allowing four Tiger runs to trail 5-3.

MV erupted for seven runs in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead for good.

Both squads traded a pair of runs in the fifth inning and the Mustangs held off a late rally by the Tigers in the seventh.

Priscilla Andrin, Reese Hickey, Olivia McDougall, and Bella Durkee finished with two RBI's each while teammate Ella Clockadale tallied one RBI.

Hickey and McDougall each had three hits in the win.

Clockadale, Andrin and Hickey each recorded a double as well.

Hickey earned the win in the circle for the Mustangs, tossing 4.2 innings with allowing three runs (one earned) with six strikeouts.

McDougall pitched 2.1 innings of relief and struck out one batter.

MV (17-11) returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 9, taking on the Mount Paran Christian School Eagles.

The Mustangs fell to the Eagles 10-8 in 10 innings on Monday in the Region Tournament at home.

A win would secure MV's spot in the Region Tournament Championship game against Wesleyan on Wednesday night.

First pitch against the Eagles is scheduled for 4 p.m. at The Wesleyan School in Peachtree Corners, Ga.
