ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Boys Basketball team picked up a key region victory on Tuesday night, Jan. 14, defeating the Mount Paran Christian School Eagles 63-61 at the Upper Campus Gymnasium.
The Mustangs jumped out to a 16-10 lead at the end of the first quarter and held off a 16-15 run by the Eagles in the second frame to go ahead 31-26 at halftime.
The third quarter saw the Eagles come back and tie the game with a 17-12 run.
But in the fourth quarter, the Mustangs outlasted the Eagles 20-18 to secure the victory.
Darrell Dickens finished with a game-high 24 points, including four made 3-pointers.
Bristan DeRocher totaled 14 points, four rebounds, two steals and two assists.
Pace Bottoms was one point and one board shy of a double-double as well.
MV shot well as a squad, finished at 42.4 percent from the field.
The Mustangs won the rebounding battle as well, 35-23.
Cam Hewling paced the Eagles in scoring with 23 points.
Mount Vernon (8-8, 5-3 Reg. 5-1A DI) returns to the court on Friday, Jan. 17, hosting Mt. Pisgah in another region match-up.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Upper Campus Gym.
