ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Baseball team picked up a key region win on Friday afternoon, April 10, defeating the Whitefield Academy Wolfpack 6-5 at Mustang Park.
The Wolfpack jumped out to a 1-0 lead after the second inning.
Whitefield added two more runs in the top of the third for a 3-0 advantage.
Mount Vernon scored four runs in the bottom of the third frame to take a 4-3 lead, the big hit coming on a Jacob Dockter double down the left field line that scored Justin Jordan, Bobby Bastek, and Hudson Forrest.
The Wolfpack reclaimed the lead in the top of the fifth inning, scoring two runs to go ahead 5-4.
The Mustangs recaptured the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth inning on a Whitefield throwing error that brought in Hayes Hudson and Rigby Anderson.
Max Franklin picked up the win on the mound for MV, tossing two scoreless innings with one strikeout.
Will Flowers started the game for MV, throwing five innings and allowing five runs (one earned) with four strikeouts.
Mount Vernon (12-8, 7-4 Reg. 5-1A DI) returns to action on Tuesday, April 14 traveling to Fellowship Christian for another region contest.
First pitch against the Paladins is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at Paladin Park.
